SentinelSolutions™ - Why Security is Important to You!

Computer and online security is a growing concern for businesses of all sizes. Computer security issues range from viruses to outright theft and natural disasters, the result of which is lost information and lost time. Security issues pop up in news articles every day, and most of our clients understand that they should take steps to better secure their businesses.

Because of the epidemic of computer security related issues Software & Services has developed the SentinelSolutions™. This solution is available in a customized package that cover common security related issues:

Network and Security Administration

The purpose of the SentinelSolutions™ Network and Security package is to provide on-going base-line management of your computer network by providing routinely scheduled analysis and adjustment of servers, PCs and network security. It is the intent of this service to maintain an on-going process of minimizing risk exposure. Additionally this service provides basic system administration services which can be conducted remotely.

Operating System Patches, Service Packs, and Anti-virus Updates
S&S will scan your network looking for servers and PCs that do not have the latest available patches, updates and service packs. The solution will identify those that need updates and remotely perform the updates as they are made available. We will also scan your network looking for servers and PCs with no anti-virus protection, old anti-virus definitions, and take corrective action.

Monthly Scan
S&S will perform a monthly scan of your Local Area Network that will include previously configured servers and PCs. All notification mechanisms will be tested and system logs will be checked. The scan will provide S&S with information regarding intrusion attempts on the network; operating system upgrades and patches; identification of problems on server operating systems; server hardware failures; network problems; problems related to anti-virus; and new devices attempting to access the network. This information will be reviewed by a trained security analyst and corrective action will be performed as needed.

Remote Systems Administration Services
S&S will also provide remote systems administration services. These services will include adding new users, disabling old users, hardening PCs and servers.

Network and Security Reports provided by S&S
During the setup process, e-mail alerts will be configured to notify the S&S point of contact about intrusion attempts; certain network problems; viruses that have been identified; and; any other security threats. These e-mails will be reviewed and corrective action will be taken, if necessary. Any unusual activity will be noted in the reports and will be brought to our attention. This report will be provided on an as need basis.

Internet Access and Content Filtering
S&S will also help you control how your employees access the internet. One of the biggest threats to an enterprise is unrestricted internet access. By accessing inappropriate or offensive content, your organization could be subject to hostile-environment claims or other actions. Other threats include decreased employee productivity and exposure to malicious web sites. S&S can provide officials with the ability to review employee internet history, block access to specific sites, or allow access to sites or services on an individual basis.

Disaster Recovery

Recent weather events have taught us all that it is important to be vigilant about protecting our data. Hurricane Katrina, and three weeks later Hurricane Rita, took a major toll on small businesses that lost vital data and computers. With a little bit of planning you can protect your vital data by storing it off site. You won’t be able to stop a natural disaster such as hurricane or flooding but you can sleep better knowing that your data is secure. The Louisiana State Legislature has passed laws that some local government entities, such as school boards, should have disaster recovery mechanisms in place.

Causes of data disaster fall into three categories: Natural, non-malicious, and malicious. Natural disasters include fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other “Acts of God”. Non-malicious disasters can include hardware failures at the server level, such as motherboard or hard drive, corruption to operating system files, or network failures such as network card, router failures. Malicious disasters can include the deliberate attack on corporate networks by computer viruses, internal attacks by disgruntled employees, and mass destruction from acts of terror, as with September 11, 2001.

Disaster Recovery Defined
Disaster recovery is performing a series of steps required to bring a server back to what is considered 100% working order after experiencing a data disaster. Steps to recover from a disaster include the initial physical rebuild of a server, the reload, and configuration of the Operating System, followed by the process of restoring data from backup tapes to hard disk.

How Recovery Works
S&S provides the necessary analysis and planning to help your organization avoid outages or reduce the time to recover during a disaster such as a hurricane or flood. This service starts with a comprehensive review of business and network disaster readiness; implements selected risk reduction strategy; and, provides ongoing support services. In the event of disaster or loss of system data, the data and systems can be restored easily and efficiently.

Network Scan and Security Analysis

Software & Services will conduct a full Security Scan and run reports on your network to help discover and fix the latest known security vulnerabilities on your Internet, intranet and extranet systems. We employ a unique artificial intelligence engine that allows us to 'think like a hacker' attempting to penetrate your network. We also have on-demand access to the most recent Security Test files. With these resources, we can scan any machine on your network to identify vulnerabilities and check adherence of established security policies. We provide you with help on fixing identified vulnerabilities, and we produce a comprehensive report of each scan.
